Anna Semple

Writer

Anna is a composer and singer.

Where’ve you come from and where are you going?

I studied music at the University of Cambridge and am now studying composition as a postgraduate at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

What’s your instrument or voice?

I’m a composer and singer (mezzo-soprano). I also play the viola (increasingly badly), piano, ukulele and French horn (a lockdown project, current repertoire includes ‘Theme from The Wombles’).

What’s on your Spotify heavy rotation and in your vinyl collection?

On Spotify: Caroline Shaw’s String Quartets, and Kate Bush’s Hounds of Love. In my vinyl collection: a lot of 1960s pop, Charlie Parker, Ornette Coleman, the complete Beethoven Symphonies and the complete works of Stravinsky among other things.

Tell us a quirky random fact about yourself.

I once raised an army of stick insect clones from the confines of bedroom when I was 11. No word of a lie (may they rest in peace).
